Frequently Asked Questions

The California Lupus Foundation is a new non-profit created from the merger of the Lupus Foundation of Northern California and Lupus Foundation of Southern California. The California Lupus Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to providing education and support to lupus patients throughout all of California. 


The merger of Lupus Foundation of Northern California and Lupus Foundation of Southern California will allow us to support lupus patients and their support systems throughout ALL of California. With combined decades of experience, the newly merged organization will continue to enhance the quality of life for lupus patients and their families through awareness, education, and advocacy.


The goal is to combine our resources, expertise, and passion for the lupus community, enabling us to serve those with lupus more effectively than ever before.  This includes:

  • Continue offering our Patient Support and Education programs
  • Enhance our existing Patient Programs
  • Provide more more programs and services to lupus patients throughout all of California


Our organizations have long known and respected one another and we have long discussed how we might work together. We are thrilled that the timing seemed right now for the organizations to take the next step together in this merger.  



The merger was publicly announced on March 3, 2025 and will take effect in the first quarter of 2025.


The newly merged organization will continue to have offices in both San Jose and San Diego, allowing us to continue to serve our existing patients. 


The transition will take place over the coming months, and we are committed to keeping you informed every step of the way. We have already begun working with our Boards and staff members and will be reaching out to you, our Community, to make sure we are keeping you in the loop and listening to your feedback. 


Yes, as of today nothing changes in Support Group schedules.  All of our programs will continue without disruption.  Over the next year our team will begin offering new programs and services. We will communicate updates as they are available.  


At this time you can continue to make your donations via your local foundation.


Yes, all donations made to California Lupus Foundation are tax-deductible.
